Application Ideas

What's the closest food truck?

Seattle does not yet have a decent app / website to track what food trucks are nearby. This site would keep an index of the popular food truck locations, as well as each truck's schedule. It would also scan twitter and facebook to track last minute changes or cancellations.

Picnic Shelter Reservation and Availablity

With Summer on the way it would be wonderful to have an application where you can reserve a picnic table or check for availability without being confined to the office hours of the Parks Department to make a reservation or check for availability

Nearest Farmer's Market + What's Fresh

There are so many good farmer's markets around, but it can be challenging to remember exactly which ones are open when and where they are. Knowing what produce is fresh today can also help motivate consumers to find a market. This app would solve that problem. More creative possibilities are also there: for example, how could we help users build relationships with farmers? Would pull Farmer's Market locations from https://data.seattle.gov/Community/My-Neighborhood-Map/82su-5fxf ...more »

Limit cell data to SMS (text) during emergencies

During major emergencies, the cell network breaks under too much voice traffic. SMS requires way less bandwidth. So, why not anticipate the next big outage and work with cell carriers to limit the cell network to sms traffic, thereby increasing capacity by 10x- 100x. This ties in with text to 911 idea someone submitted--which would be an essential component if authorities chose to throttle voice and video traffic.

Who do I call?

What number do you call if you have a non-emergency? Could we offer a single number via Twilio that has a directory so people could find the right number? Or maybe a single website with different organizations and numbers tagged and indexed, so that they can be easily found.

Where's my Car? (find your stolen car)

I would like an app that would report abandoned (possibly stolen) vehicles in a neighborhood and allow owners to possibly track down their car. I know someone whose car was stolen in the middle of the night from in front of his house. It was found by the police by morning but the thieves had already stripped it and stolen everything from inside of it, even the battery and some parts. They left the vehicle to be picked ...more »

Public Restroom App

I'm not sure if there's readily available source information, but if there were an app for people to find clean restrooms open to the public that would be cool.

I drink a ton of water and luckily know where to go, but tourists and/or people new to any area would love it!

Or maybe it's just me...
